about

Originally written in 2006 and performed live with Alanalda on several occasions during our very brief live career. I stumbled across the drum loop from Drum On Demand and thought it fit the bill perfectly (with a few slight alterations). A pretty straightforward pop song, lyrically it's fairly clear. A lament for the disappearing record stores of the world, our news media and access to information.
Bit of a mixed bag I suppose.

lyrics

Verse
Took a job in a record store
But the owners didn't know much more about music
Than a herd of cows
Told my boss we've got to educate
He said "son the loss will be too great
Now get movin on stacking all those shelves"

Chorus 1
Now this is where I draw the line
You won't pickle my brains in brine
No you won't get me not this time

Verse 2
So started workin for the local news
I was a gofer with a camera crew
The producer he didn't like my face.
I asked him why we didn't tell the whole truth
And he said "no-one wants to hear your views
Where's my coffee? That's what we pay you for"

Chorus 2
So this is where I draw the line
You won't pickle my brains in brine
No you won't get me not this time
You won't pickle my brains in brine
No this is where I draw the line

Mid

Verse 3
Now I'm working in a government house
I'm meant to stop the truth from leaking out
What can I say? I'm not so good at my job
Yeh it's important that we know everything
When we're informed we form an opinion
Not just something we think we're meant to say

Chorus 3
This is where I draw the line
You won't pickle my brains in brine
No you won't get me not this time
You won't pickle my brains in brine
The truth will out yeh no more lyin'
You won't pickle my brains in brine
No this is where I draw the line.
