about

I have always loved song titles that are just that little bit too long – especially for radio djs or tv presenters. Morrissey and The Smiths had some great ones – Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me etc. I was playing around with the idea of a song from the point of view of a neglected spouse and the first line that fitted with the melody became the song title. Very simply recorded. A couple of acoustic guitars, piano, bass and vocals. I finished it off with subtle synth pad that's bedded deep into the mix.

lyrics

Verse 1
What if I told you I’ll die tomorrow?
Would you be nicer now?
Would you listen to me or look right through me
Of no use any more?
What if I died?
Would you pay your respects?
Would you even cry?
Would it make a difference
If I wasn’t here for you to grind me down?

Verse 2
What if I was to die tomorrow?
Would you tell everyone
That you’d just ignore me til you’d need something
Knowing that I would oblige?

Or would you lie?
And invent some stories
About all the times
That we were in synch
And not tectonic plates always colliding?

Verse 3
What if I said I’ll die tomorrow?
Would you regret how you’ve been?
Would you say you didn’t mean
To treat me so so mean?
You’d never have done it if you knew.

So what if you did?
Do you think I would change my will..?
